Mattias Backman isn’t getting the same fanfare as other Detroit prospects, but it’s not because he’s underperforming. The 6-foot-2, 176 pound defenseman has an assist and is a plus-1 through two NHL prospect tournament games for the Red Wings.
“I feel comfortable out there,” Backman said. “The rink size here is smaller, but I am learning every day. That is why I am here.”

Ryan Sproul is leading by example at the 2014 NHL Prospect Tournament in Traverse City, MI. The big defenseman notched the Red Wings game tying goal leading to the eventual 6-5 victory over the St. Louis Blues in the Wings opening game.

On September 13, 2014 Hall of Fame defenseman Mark Howe will sign his book Gordie Howe’s Son: A Hall of Fame Life in the Shadow of Mr. Hockey. The book signing will be held from 9:00 am – 11:00 am at Centre I.C.E. Arena in Traverse City, MI. Books will be available onsite at a cost of $16 (unsigned) and $30 (signed) with a limit of two signed books per person. No other memorabilia will be signed at this event.

The Buffalo Sabres have announced their 201 roster for the NHL prospect tournament at Centre I.C.E. arena in Traverse City, MI. The team features the second overall selection in the 2014 NHL draft in Sam Reinhart. Also participating are first round draft choices Joel Armia (2011), Rasmus Ristolainen (2013) and Nikita Zadorov (2013). The roster also features three players who have seen time in the NHL including Ristolainen (34 games), Zadorov (7 games), and Jake McCabe (7 games for Minnesota).
